SKIRA & LUMENART: IN THE SHADOW OF LIGHT

On Friday, 12 June 2026, at 9:00 PM, the opening of the exhibition SKIRA & LUMENART: IN THE SHADOW OF LIGHT will take place at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Istria / Museo d’arte contemporanea dell’Istria. The exhibition is the first-ever retrospective of the esteemed and multi-award-winning Pula-based lighting designer Dean Skira, whose work holds a prominent position on the local, regional, national, and international scene.

It is also his first solo presentation at the Museum, conceived by the author himself, treating the museum space as an equal participant in a site-specific manner. In addition to presenting award-winning product designs and completed projects, the exhibition will include installations, video works, and photography (posters), while also reflecting on an exceptionally active and productive career marked by 35 years of professional work and 20 years of the House of Light.

With this exhibition, the Museum continues its programme line that places applied arts, architecture, design, and visual communications on an equal footing, exploring their diverse manifestations while gradually developing interdisciplinary approaches to the evaluation, presentation, and promotion of visual arts. Previous exhibitions within this framework have featured Pula architects Leonid Zuban and Dino Krizmanić, Breda Bizjak, the award-winning design collective Studio Sonda, and others.

As an advocate of a discursive approach, philosophical thought, and sustainability, Skira will accompany the exhibition with a series of mediation and educational formats conceived by the author himself and closely related to his field of work. These programmes are intended for visitors of all ages, particularly pupils and students whose education is connected to applied arts, architecture, and visual communications.
