Skira & Lumenart: In the Shadow of Light
On Friday, June 12, 2026, at 9:00 PM, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Istria will host the opening of the exhibition SKIRA & LUMENART: IN THE SHADOW OF LIGHT/ U SJENI SVJETLA, the first ever retrospective of the esteemed and multi-award-winning Pula lighting designer Dean Skira, whose work is highly positioned in the local, regional, national, and international spheres.
This is also the first solo presentation in the Museum's premises, within which the exhibition setup was conceived by the author himself, and the museum space treated as an equally important actor in a site-specific manner. In addition to presenting award-winning products in the field of product design and realized projects, the exhibition will also include installations, video and photography (posters), and will chronologically refer to an exceptionally active and productive period marked by 35 years of work and 20 years of Kuća Svjetla (House of Light).
With this exhibition, the Museum continues its programmatic line that equally focuses on applied art, architecture, design, and visual communications in their diverse manifestations, gradually developing interdisciplinary approaches in the valorization, presentation, and promotion of visual arts. In this context, solo exhibitions of Pula architects Leonid Zuban and Dino Krizmanić, Breda Bizjak, the multi-award-winning design collective Studio Sonda, and others have been held so far.
As a lover and proponent of a discursive approach, philosophical thought, and an advocate for sustainability, the exhibition will also be accompanied by active mediation formats conceived by the author himself, closely related to the field in which he operates, and intended for various age groups, especially pupils and students whose education is linked to applied art, architecture, and visual communications.
The exhibition runs until August 23, 2026, and can be viewed every day except Mondays and holidays according to the following opening hours: June- July: 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM / August: 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM.
