Bloomsday at Giardini 2 – Eimear McBride

Award-winning Irish writer Eimear McBride, known to Croatian readers for the acclaimed novels The Lesser Bohemians and Strange Hotel, will appear at Klub-knjižara on Thursday, 18 June at 8:00 p.m. for a special edition of the New Book Among the Treetops series celebrating Bloomsday.

Widely regarded as one of the most powerful contemporary heirs to the Joycean stream-of-consciousness tradition, McBride will discuss the transformative influence of James Joyce on the development of her distinctive literary style. Through linguistic and conceptual experimentation, her writing explores new ways of expressing the inexpressible.

Eimear McBride is an Irish novelist born in Liverpool in 1976. She spent her childhood in Ireland before moving to London at the age of seventeen to study acting. Her debut novel, A Girl Is a Half-formed Thing, was published in 2013. Her second novel, The Lesser Bohemians, appeared in the autumn of 2016, followed by her third novel, Strange Hotel, in 2020. She has received numerous British and Irish literary awards for her work. In addition to novels, she writes short fiction, which has been published in newspapers, magazines, and anthologies. She lives and works in London.
