Premiere of the 16th School of Animated Film and Kritičko rešeto (Critical Sieve)

The premiere of the 16th School of Animated Film of the Pula Film Factory, along with a new edition of the programme Kritičko rešeto, will take place at the Pula Film Factory Club, Stiglicheva 12, Pula.

The premiere will feature the short animated film “The Call of the Fridge”, created as the final project of this year’s School of Animated Film, which was dedicated to the theme of food. Through practical work, the participants explored the basics of animation, the illusion of movement, object transformation, animation on a magnetic board, working with plasticine and drawing, as well as the principles of stop-motion animation. In the final part of the programme, divided into smaller author-producer groups, they developed short animated sequences, prepared characters, props and sets, and took on the basic roles within the filmmaking process.

After the screening, the participants will be awarded certificates, followed by Kritičko rešeto, a discussion format of the Pula Film Factory in which invited guests analyse and comment on the participants’ films.

The guest of this edition will be Roberta Weissman Nagy, academic sculptor, art educator and Pula-based artist. The conversation will open up a space for reflection on visual expression, character design, materials, space, children’s imagination and visual thinking in children’s animated film.

Kritičko rešeto is conceived as a stimulating conversation that helps participants understand their own work, the process of making a film and possible next steps, while bringing the audience closer to the way children’s and youth films are created — through play, experimentation, collaboration, mistakes, surprises and patient animation work.

The mentors of the 16th School of Animated Film are Cristiana Rodrigues, Sanda Letonja-Marjanović and Marko Zdravković-Kunac.

Admission to the pleasantly air-conditioned Pula Film Factory Club is free.
