Remembering the Victims, Warning the Living– Risiera di San Sabba through the Lens of Marino Ierman

The exhibition presents twenty photographs of the monumental spaces of the Risiera di San Sabba by the Trieste-based photographer Marino Ierman.

The photographs selected for the exhibition offer a moving journey through the monumental spaces of the Risiera di San Sabba, captured in a stark black-and-white technique in 2020. They invite reflection through the contemplation of the architectural environment, in line with the intentions of architect Romano Boico, who oversaw the transformation of the Risiera in the early 1970s. It is no coincidence that the exhibition title, "Remembering the Victims, Warning the Living",  is inspired by Boico’s words from his presentation accompanying the project. The texts accompanying the photographs recount the history of the Risiera and, like the museum itself, serve as a form of testimony.

The exhibition was curated by Anna Krekić, curator of the Municipal Museum of the Risiera di San Sabba.
