This Friday, 3 July, Pula will celebrate the feast of its patron saint, Saint Thomas, with a rich and diverse programme.
The programme begins at 10 a.m. at Mate Balota Square in the Pula City Market, in the shade behind the flower and seed stalls, where traditional buzara will be prepared in a large pan.
The central part of the celebration will begin at 6 p.m. with a solemn Mass at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pula. The Mass will be led by the Bishop of Poreč and Pula, Mons. Ivan Štironja. After the Mass, as in previous years, a solemn procession will take place, starting from the cathedral and continuing through St. Thomas Square, Kandler Street, Sergijevaca Street, under the Arch of the Sergii, across Portarata Square and Giardini, Carrarina Street, and back via Kandler Street to the cathedral, where a solemn blessing with the relic of Saint Thomas will be given.
After the procession, a traditional concert of contemporary spiritual music will be held in front of the cathedral. This year’s guest will be Stjepan Lach, one of the most well-known Croatian performers of contemporary spiritual music. The concert starts at 8:30 p.m.
