At the Reading Room of the Pensioners’ Club, on Friday, 17 July at 10 a.m., the exhibition of works “The Battle of Vis 1866” by Cvetko Išić will be opened.
The exhibition, organized to mark the 160th anniversary of the Battle of Vis, is presented by the Pula City Library and Reading Room and the Viribus Unitis Society.
Cvetko Išić was born in Ljubljana and has lived in Pula since the age of three. During his working life, he sailed on ships around the world, while in his free time he nurtures his passion for ship modelling and painting. As a member of the ULIKS Association of Visual and Literary Artists from Pula, he has participated in around ten exhibitions and has also held two solo exhibitions, organized to mark the 100th anniversary of the launching of the first submarine at the Imperial and Royal Naval Arsenal in Pula.
The Society for the Study of the History of the Imperial and Royal Navy “Viribus Unitis” was founded in 1997 in Pula as a non-profit association active in the Istria County region, bringing together members from Croatia and abroad. The Society’s aim is to study the naval, scientific-technical and cultural activities of the Imperial and Royal Navy in the Adriatic, particularly in Pula, which from the 1850s until 1918 served as the main naval port of the Habsburg Monarchy.
The exhibition will remain on display until 15 August and can be visited during the Reading Room’s opening hours.
