ORGAN CONCERT - 25th anniversary of the organ's installation and it's reparation
We cordially invite you to an organ concert at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pula. The concert marks both the restoration of the cathedral organ and the 25th anniversary of its installation.
This instrument is of great significance to the whole region, as it is the only modern mechanical-action organ capable of performing diverse repertoire for concerts, liturgical services and educational purposes. The restoration was carried out by organ builders from the Ličanin & Odak workshop, who gained their expertise and skills through years of study and work with renowned organbuilding companies in Germany and Switzerland.
Local and international organ masters will demonstrate the instrument's capabilities across various stylistic periods. Performers include Eduard Kancelar, a prominent Pula-based organist and educator who initiated the donation of the instrument to the Diocese of Poreč and Pula, leading to its installation in 2001, and his former student Elena Roce. Roce is the only active concert organist and singer from Istria, as well as being the organiser of the Organum Histriae festival. Assisting her in organising the festival is Krešimir Klarić, a composer and organist from Karlovac, who will demonstrate the organ's potential through the challenging art of improvisation. The evening’s special guest will be Jeroen Koopman, one of the most prominent Dutch organists of the younger generation.
The programme will feature masterpieces from the German, Italian and French Baroque eras, while music from the 19th and 20th centuries will reveal a variety of tonal colors and unconventional stop combinations.
We look forward to welcoming you!
