Beyond the frame with Goran Gajić

As part of the "Beyond the frame" series, the audience will have the opportunity to meet the author of the cult film "How Rock 'n' Roll Was Ruined" and talk with him about the film, the era in which it was made, the regional film and music scene, as well as his later work in the United States. The conversation with Gajić will be moderated by Igor Šaponja.

Goran Gajić, born in Zagreb, began his film career in 1989 with the movie "How Rock 'n' Roll Was Ruined". He later built an international career, directing episodes of American television series such as "Oz", "Babylon 5", and "Level 9", among others. He is also the director of the well-known series "Pozorište u kući" and "Vratiće se rode".

The conversation will be followed by a screening of "How Rock 'n' Roll Was Ruined", one of the most recognizable films of the generation that grew up with the New Wave and the 1980s rock culture. The film is an omnibus consisting of three stories – "Two Paths to the Source", "Not Everything is in Love (Some is in Money)", and "Do Not Send Me Letters" – directed by Zoran Pezo, Vladimir Slavica, and Goran Gajić. The film combines humor, absurdity, music, and the spirit of youth culture just before the end of an era. A special atmosphere is given to the film by the music of three key authors of the Yugoslav rock scene – Vladimir Divljan (Idoli), Srđan Gojković (Električni orgazam), and Dušan Kojić Koja (Disciplina kičme). At the 1989 Pula Film Festival, the film was awarded the Golden Arena for Best Editing.

Admission to the program is free, and everyone interested is welcome. Volunteers from the association will assist persons with reduced mobility.

The program is implemented with the support of the Istrian Region - Regione Istriana Administrative Department for Culture and Territoriality - Assessorato cultura e territorialità, the City of Pula-Pola, and funds from the state budget of the Republic of Croatia through the Council for National Minorities.
