A special place in the Cinema Valli programme is reserved for the beginning of the fifth season of Cinema 15+, which on Saturday, September 12, presents a double programme: a preview screening of the new short film by young Istrian director Frane Pekić, “Kad smo kopali tunele u pijesku” (“When We Dug Tunnels in the Sand”), and Rob Reiner’s beloved film classic “The Princess Bride”.

Preview screening on Saturday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m.

Until next summer, two Saturdays a month will once again be reserved for Cinema 15+. The young people behind the programme have prepared the fifth season, whose opening brings together new Istrian film production and a great cinematic classic. This season also introduces a new programme feature – a Croatian short film, further creating space for the presentation of domestic film production.

Frane Pekić, a directing student at the Academy in Zagreb and one of the initiators of Cinema 15+, will present his new short film “Kad smo kopali tunele u pijesku” in a preview screening at 7:30 p.m. Once again setting the story in Istria, he draws on authentic motifs from life in Svetvinčenat while poetically exploring memory, childhood, friendship and growing up. The film was shot at locations throughout the Municipality of Svetvinčenat and features non-professional actors from the local community. The international film crew is made up predominantly of Istrian filmmakers and collaborators. The film was produced by Šikuti machinae and Delamo čine, with co-financing from the Istrian County and the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC).

The short film will be followed at 8 p.m. by Rob Reiner’s “The Princess Bride”. This beloved classic follows Westley, a young man who becomes a pirate and sets out in search of his true love, Buttercup. Along the way, he encounters numerous obstacles, enemies and allies, and his quest turns into an adventure filled with humour, romance and unforgettable characters.
