LET'S GO BY TRAIN! 150 years of Istrian railways - 1876 – 2026.

We invite you to the opening of the exhibition, organized in cooperation between the Historical and Maritime Museum of Istria – Museo storico e navale dell'Istria and the Croatian Railway Museum, commemorating a century and a half of railway history in Istria. The exhibition provides a historical overview of the planning, construction, and development of the railway in Istria, as well as its impact on society, the economy, and the region. In addition to showcasing the most significant features of current and former lines, the exhibition displays numerous original artifacts from Istrian railways. These range from technical documentation, blueprints, plans, timetables, locomotive books, postcards, and photographs to various practical objects used on the railway—such as signaling devices, telecommunications equipment, vehicles, and model vehicles characteristic of Istrian railways throughout history, all the way to railway uniforms and other equipment. A large number of items in this exhibition will be displayed to the public for the very first time. The exhibition is accompanied by multimedia content, numerous photographs, and geographical maps. It showcases the history of the existing railway network, consisting of the Divača – Pula line and the Lupoglav – Raša line, which is awaiting revitalization. It also highlights lines that no longer exist but significantly influenced the development and transport connectivity of Istria, such as the Kanfanar – Rovinj line and the narrow-gauge Parenzana railway from Trieste to Poreč. Alongside these, data on the planned railway routes through Učka are being presented for the first time. In its concluding section, the exhibition draws attention to the tangible and intangible heritage objects of the Istrian railways.
