hildren’s Week: Volunteering in the Community
This year, Children’s Week will take place from 5 to 10 October at the Central Library, Children’s Library, Veruda Library and Vodnjan Library, offering a wealth of programmes for children and their parents. Alongside numerous workshops and storytelling sessions, writers Jasminka Tihi Stepanić and Melita Rundek will present their books in Pula, while Marko Ferek will mark two decades since the publication of his book Hiperaktivni sanjari (Hyperactive Dreamers).
The main theme of this year’s Children’s Week is volunteering in the community, marking the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development.
Children’s Week is a traditional annual initiative of the Croatian Federation of “Our Children” Societies and its local associations, dedicated entirely to children. Through its programmes and activities, Children’s Week reaches an ever-growing number of children and adults each year in the cities and municipalities where “Our Children” Societies (DND) are active.
As Pula has held the title of Child-Friendly City for many years, the Library takes part in this national initiative every year with a rich programme of activities.
The enduring goals of Children’s Week are to draw the wider public’s attention to the rights, needs and activities of and for children; to organise special and appropriately selected games, performances and creative activities by and for children; to launch new initiatives of broader significance for children’s development and upbringing; to encourage voluntary social and professional work with children; and to promote children’s active participation in the activities of their local community and beyond.
