As part of the Zlatne godine (Golden Years) programme, the Institute of Public Health of Istria County and the Pula City Library and Reading Room invite retirees and all other interested citizens to the lecture Rational Use of Antibiotics, which will be delivered by Lorena Lazarić Stefanović, MSc, MD, specialist in medical microbiology, on 5 October 2026 at 10 a.m. at the Reading Room of the Pula Pensioners’ Club.

The lecture will highlight the importance of the proper and responsible use of antibiotics and explain when they are needed and when they are not effective. Special attention will be paid to antimicrobial resistance, i.e. the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics, which represents one of the greatest contemporary public health challenges.

The rational use of antibiotics is important for successful treatment, reducing side effects, and preserving the effectiveness of these medicines for future generations. Antibiotics should therefore be taken exclusively on the recommendation of a doctor, in the prescribed dose and for the prescribed duration.

After the lecture, the Institute’s staff will offer interested participants blood pressure and blood glucose measurements.

For the second consecutive year, activities within the Golden Years project are held at the Reading Room on the first Monday of each month (except during the summer months) at 10 a.m., with the aim of educating and informing older adults about physical and mental health, as well as the importance of prevention and adopting healthy lifestyle habits.

Everyone interested is welcome to attend the lectures, and no prior registration is required.
