Christoph & Sebastian Mügge: „Adriatic Inferno Package“
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Istria – Museo d’arte contemporanea dell’Istria is presenting, for the first time in Croatia, Istria, and its own exhibition spaces, the exceptionally talented and multiple award-winning German-Swedish artistic duo Christoph & Sebastian Mügge.
Working as an artistic duo—and as brothers—they create site-specific, large-scale installations in Sweden, where they live, as well as in prestigious exhibition venues around the world, using a wide range of media and formats.
Inspired by the distinctive characteristics of the location and the country/region in which they are exhibiting for the first time, and deeply aware of the challenges facing contemporary society, they have conceived a monumental site-specific installation that transforms the exhibition space into a fictional tourist destination on the Adriatic coast.
Made from discarded and inexpensive materials, as well as natural elements, and combining mass-produced objects with valuable museum artefacts and collections, the installation brings together beach culture, Istrian visual traditions, souvenir aesthetics, local patterns, and everyday objects.
This fictional resort becomes a future archaeological site of the present, preserving traces of desire, consumption, nostalgia, and the enduring belief that paradise can always be rebuilt.
