MPZ Cantus PoPuli was founded in 2014 by the choir's artistic director and conductor, music pedagogue Tatjana Merkl.

The choir is very active. It participates in many domestic and international competitions where it has won thirteen gold, three silver and one bronze diploma. Along with the Croatian Choral Directors Association, they are the organizers of the international choir competition Istria Cantat and the organizer of the ‘’Polyphonic Embrace’’, a meeting of choirs held on the occasion of Pula City Day. The choir also organizes an independent concert called ''Echoes of Music’’, which is held on the occasion of the Day of the patron saint of the city, St. Thomas.

The choir’s love for Istrian music and expression is shown through their performances and participation in the Choir Festival of Istrian music ''Naš kanat je lip'' (Our Song Is Beautiful), where they won the award of the Croatian Composers' Society for the best performance of choral music from a Croatian composer.

In the short time that they have existed, the choir has entered the recording studio on two occasions. The first time was in 2017 to record a song for a documentary about KUD Idijoti (a legendary punk band from Pula), after which they also performed at a charity concert organized in the band’s honour. Their second venture into the recording studio was in 2019 when they recorded the song Sole with the band Dogma and Saša Antić from TBF.
