Niko neće moći da nam oduzme našu stvar
On Wednesday, 10 June, the Croatian premiere of the performance “No One Will Be Able to Take Our Thing Away From Us” will take place at the Giardini 2 Bookshop-Club, performed by poet and performer Nikola Mladenović (Džoni Mauna) and directed by Luka Jovanov.
The first performance will be at 20:00, followed by a second at 21:00. Due to limited seating, reservations are required via email at klubgiardini2@sanjamknjige.hr.
The performance „Niko neće moći da nam oduzme našu stvar“ (“No One Will Be Able to Take Our Thing Away From Us”) is based on Nikola Mladenović’s debut poetry collection Jasni izbori. Through the microcosm of New Belgrade, Mladenović (Džoni Mauna) reflects on the upbringing of a transitional generation marked by a lack of clear guidance, blurred ethical boundaries, violence and rawness, but also by a persistent search for moments of closeness, tenderness, and playfulness amid everyday harshness.
From seemingly ordinary situations shaped by the imbalance between desires and possibilities, between promised and unfulfilled horizons, emerges a spirit of resilience, a burning desire for life, and the creation of different rules of the game — a community of “lovers of meaning and compassion.”
This program continues the project “Novokomponovani: The 1990s Generation in the New Millennium,” which aims to study and present the spirit of the 1990s generation through literary, paraliterary, musical, artistic practices, and academic work in the fields of social sciences and humanities.
By symbolically reconnecting Pula and Belgrade—cities physically and symbolically separated by the disappearance of rail and air connections—the project seeks to establish new generational and transgenerational ties, this time on anti-militarist and anti-nationalist foundations.
The program is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, the National Foundation for Civil Society Development, the City of Pula, and the ProPeace Foundation.
