Europe’s rising improvisation stars take the stage at Pula Cathedral!

Following the recent renovation of the cathedral organ, the Pula Cathedral will host an extraordinary musical event that brings together tradition and innovation, composition and improvisation, the familiar and the unexpected. The concert Dialoghi d'aria offers audiences a unique artistic experience in which music, colour, and imagination intertwine to create a vibrant and immersive sound world.

The newly renovated organ - the largest mechanical organ in the Istrian Region - will be presented by Italian organist Gabriele Agrimonti, widely regarded as one of the most promising young musicians of his generation. He will be joined by acclaimed saxophonist Elias Lapia, whose artistic voice bridges the precision of classical music and the spontaneity of jazz.

The programme is dedicated to improvisation, the centuries-old craft of creating music in the moment. Through a continuous musical dialogue, Agrimonti and Lapia will explore the expressive possibilities of their instruments, creating new sonic landscapes inspired by the rich heritage of European music.

Drawing inspiration from a wide spectrum of styles - from medieval chant and baroque counterpoint to contemporary minimalism and jazz - the artists create a meeting place between past and present. Familiar musical ideas become the starting point for spontaneous creation, where tradition is constantly reimagined and transformed into something entirely new.

Within the walls of the Pula Cathedral, whose foundations date back to the 4th century, audiences will embark on a journey through centuries of musical history. In this unique setting, ancient melodies resonate with renewed vitality, demonstrating how music from the past can continue to inspire, surprise, and speak powerfully to contemporary listeners.
